Find Ways to Support Local Businesses

I love being able to go online and find items that I have been looking for. I normally use a action type website that allows me to bid on an item and if won, will be shipped to me. I have gotten some really nice things by doing this. The only thing I do not like is that I hate having to deal with the shipping aspect. Shipping can cost a lot and sometimes takes a long time to get to my house. A friend of mine had suggested that I start using a website that helps you find items locally. Plus, since my husband works in for the city I want to find ways to support local businesses

This particular website has a number of categories that you can search through. People can list items that they want to buy or sell and upload pictures of the item, for free. You can search which items are for sale in your town, support local businesses, and can communicate through email with the seller. You can then arrange to meet (in a safe place) to exchange money and pick up your item. I like to find items locally a whole lot more than bidding and having to worry about shipping. I have found a lot of things that I have wanted to buy by doing this.

Strangest Trends of My Childhood

The 90′s was a strange time, we were trying to get over the 80′s, which was a pain to shake off, and we had role models like the Spice Girls, N’Sync and Boyz2Men to draw our fashion from. In such a strange time, there were also interesting trends that I remember and miss a little:

5. Lunchables

So I have no idea if these actually came out in the 90′s, but for some reason, the idea of taking a flimsy plastic container of cheese, crackers, and some kind of mystery meat seemed cooler than a hearty sandwich, apple and homemade cookie. Not only are these actually full of sodium, preservatives and heaven knows what else…but even for a small child, there’s really only enough for a snack.

4. Squeeze-its

These were so entertaining, but like…ewe. Koolaid and all of it’s other ventures were just disgusting flavors of liquid sugar and I’m convinced were the reason I’ve had a root canal when I was 13.

3. Scrunchies

Do I miss these??? Okay I’ll admit, it was pretty fun to match my outfit with my shoelaces and scrunchies, sometimes I’d even get a neon green and neon pink one if I was feeling flirty! But as with bows, ribbons, and those Native American braided things you got at the fair…it’s now just something we laugh at when our mom wears one on cleaning day.

2. Overalls

I loved overalls. I loved them, I miss them, and I want them back. I wore overalls everywhere. Everyone did! I had them in every length imaginable, so did my mom, my brothers, and everyone in my class. They came in different colors, materials, and my gosh, they were comfortable. Now the only people that can get away with them are pregnant women, babies, and…that’s about it.

1. Stuffed Crust Pizza

I remember the day my dad finally splurged and ordered a “Stuffed Crust Pizza” from Pizza Hut. We were so excited and the commercials came on twice while we were waiting for it to be delivered, each time showing that famous NBA Point Guard or whoever take a bit from the crush of the pizza and smile as the melted cheese just dripped and hung from the piece. What a load of crock, there was nothing in our crush but hot hair…my dad even called Pizza Hut to Complain…so embarrassing.

What do you miss from the 90′s? Let me know!

Help The Earth With Clean Energy Technologies

The carbon footprint of each individual human has grown tremendously through the use of technology like cars, computers and other components that use a lot of electricity. Fortunately, there are easy ways to lower your footprint, help the environment and still enjoy the liberties and advances of so much technology. The solution is with clean energy technologies that give you power while lowering or eliminated the harmful chemicals released into the air.

On a broad scale, clean technologies include advanced power sources. This can be achieved with solar panels, wind turbines or tidal power plants. Tidal power plants harness the natural power of the ocean to turn a generator and give power to coastal areas.

On a smaller scale, companies are constantly working to create and manipulate current technologies to function cleaner. The result for the consumer can mean longer running batteries, small solar powered devices, home energy solutions like LED light bulbs and the success of the electric car.

In your local area there are bound to be multiple companies or agencies working with clean energy technologies. Not only do you have the benefit of possible tax rebates, but experts can analyze your home and use these devices to help cut electric bills, oil bills and lead you to a greener lifestyle.

I Used Bell – Sunridge Mall Kiosk

Don’t you wish cell phone stores had, like, a ‘frequent breaker’ membership? I swear I break my phone once every two months. I even buy the hefty cases, the ‘indestructible’ phones and the dorky belt cases. I feel like I’m as careful as can be, but to no avail. Finally, after breaking six phones in my two-year contract with one company and having to buy completely NEW phones six times, I decided to switch to Bell. I guess they have this trade-in program that makes it easy to trade in your old phone for a new one. I mean, it’s not all THAT easy, it has to be in a certain condition and in the last century, but Bell will take your phone and give you a certain amount of credits toward a new phone. Which is great!

I went in to the Bell – Sunridge Mall Kiosk while I was shopping for new boots the other day, and it was so easy to just hand them a few of my old phones and watch the price of the new one I wanted roll on down. I was in such a good mood after that, I even bought my son some hockey pads he’s been needing but I haven’t been willing to pay for. I went home, gathered up the mounds of old phones our family has discarded, and the next day I returned to the Bell – Sunridge Mall Kiosk and got even more points toward that shiny, new, not-yet-cracked phone I had been eyeing. The worker kind of chuckled at me, he recognized me from the day before and commended me on my enthusiasm for Bell’s services. He asked me if I had upgraded to Bell’s internet yet. I stuttered a, “no” and he smiled and told me all about Mobility, Satellite TV, Internet, Mobility hardware upgrades and Bell Trade-in program.

I had no idea that Bell offered so many things, especially at the tiny Bell – Sunridge Mall Kiosk that I had been frequenting. I had been needing to do something about our internet service, we thought our neighbors were stealing our wi-fi and we wanted to switch but we didn’t know how to do that. The worker guy helped me out, and I bought a whole new internet package right on the spot. I was able to bundle that internet with a special cell phone data plan, which was great because it actually ended up saving me a lot of money.

By this point I was ready to slip off my wedding ring and ask the ‘just-saved-me-a-ton-of-money’ guy to dinner, when I realized that I had just enough credits for my new phone. I traded in my current phone (not yet demolished), and that just put me over the top of the required amount. Ah, new phones, what a great feeling. It was basically free too, I mean, what else were we going to do with those old phones? Thanks Bell, I had a great experience at the Bell – Sunridge Mall Kiosk!

Shopping Carts For Websites Come From?

Visiting any shopping website and picking through merchandise to make a purchase, you will eventually put items in a virtual “shopping cart”. What’s interesting about shopping carts for websites is that about ten to twelve years ago, these little symbols in the upper right corners of the screens did not exist. If you made an online purchase then, it went into a list format for safekeeping until you were ready to buy.

Since then, when the first idea for a virtual shopping cart and a shopping cart symbol came about, every site where products and services can be bought now has one. Shopping carts for websites are not even excluded on entertainment sites in social media rooms where real cash is being traded for virtual goods inside a game. The current generation of teens and children are familiar with this on screen symbol and what it means, but a few short years ago, they would not have recognized it beyond a picture.

Volusion designers are the ones responsible for designing these virtual shopping cart symbols. They get their title from two words, “volume” and “illusion”, for the amount, or volume, of merchandise placed inside the “illusion” of a shopping cart.
